A tight-fitting shoe

From “US: The Resurrection of American Terror” by Rev. Kenneth W. Wheeler

I have found the metaphor of a tight-fitting shoe helpful in trying to describe the racial nightmare that has been forced upon Black people. A tight-fitting shoe is painfully uncomfortable. White supremacy and Jim Crow segregation are abnormal, as abnormal as asking someone whose foot is a size 12 to wear a shoe that is a size 11 and then demand that they get used to the uncomfortable fit. Segregation was the uncomfortable fit. It was abnormal and it was unnatural. It was also unjust.
