We are all always loved by God.

From “Walk with Me: A Journey through the Landscape of Trauma” by Ellen Corcella

When I am at the bedside of a patient who will soon depart this life, I offer

You were loved by God from the moment you were born. You were loved by God your entire life to this very moment, and there is nothing you have done or could ever do to turn God’s love from you.

I recite these words not as a trite matter. I offer these words based on a lifetime lived more often in the darkness of depression than in the brightness of light. I recite these words because love, unconditional love, agape love, God’s love, is our Jacobean arch, the enduring structure of our lives. I will face suffering again. I will face joy again. God will always love me.

We are all always loved by God.
