We Cannot Afford To Be Silent

From “US: The Resurrection of American Terror” by Rev. Kenneth W. Wheeler

Four hundred years of a nation’s life and history shaped by the enigma of slavery, the nightmare of Jim Crow segregation, and the continued nightmare of racial discrimination cannot be seriously dealt with by setting aside one Sunday a year. One Sunday a year will not eradicate a deadly cancer that has metastasized throughout the American body politic. The cancer of white supremacy is as deep as it is dangerous. It is the greatest threat to American democracy. This is the most urgent takeaway from the insurrection of January 6, 2021. Those of us who love this nation, who love the idea of America and what America represents, those of us who truly care about liberty and justice for all cannot afford to ever be silent in the face of this ominous and deadly threat.
