From “Dropout to Doctorate: Breaking the Chains of Educational Injustice” By Terrence Lester, PhD
The sustained social ills and living conditions, discrimination, and restricted access to equitable resources contribute to a trauma deeply rooted in the history of white supremacy and discriminatory policies. This trauma shows up as health issues, social and emotional heaviness that many carry in their bodies, and educational barriers. These factors collectively can hinder efforts to overcome these adverse social conditions which could directly impact and influence not-so-great educational outcomes. This could perpetuate cycles of suffering, injustice, and disparity in educational opportunities and accessing higher education.
