From “Abandon the Orderly House: Good News for Skeptics & Burned Out Believers” by A. W. Regets
In this life of faith, things are not always what they appear. God can do more through our failures than we can accomplish through our best laid plans. So, the goal for us Christians is not to be successful in the eyes of the world, but to be faithful in the eyes of God. That’s true in life, work, and ministry, too.
The world measures your worth by the tangible results you provide. But the only thing Christ calls you to produce is the fruits of the Spirit. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
And as Henri Nouwen tells us, “Successes come from strength and power. Fruits are born in weakness.” So, we can’t judge our efforts by the same standard the rest of the world uses. We answer to something bigger.
